Troy Continues Homestand Against Jacksonville State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team looks to continue its best start in recorded history when it welcomes Jacksonville State to the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Off to a perfect 3-0 start, the Trojans look to keep the momentum going as five players (Hagar Amin, Valeriia Avdeeva, Olivia Elliott, Maria Guirguis, Kristina Kukaras) remain undefeated in singles play. The Gamecocks (5-1) matchup against Troy on a four-match win streak, losing once to Mississippi State, 4-3.

The Trojans continued their run of 11 straight points scored when they blanked Nicholls, 4-0. Doubles competition went Troy's way as the pairs of Amin / Kukaras and Guirguis / Avdeeva matched each other with 6-2 wins over the Colonel competition to take a 1-0 lead.
 
In order of finish, Amin, Elliott and Guirguis finished off the match in singles after Amin and Elliott won straight sets to put Troy one point from the win, 3-0. After falling in her first set, 6-3, Guirguis followed it with a 6-1, 6-1 finish to sweep the Colonels, 4-0.

Jacksonville State's start has been close to perfect, losing once to power-five opponent Mississippi State, 4-3. Despite starting with the advantage, 1-0, JSU lost three straight singles points to fall behind for the lone loss.

Ella Tuomela has shined in singles play for JSU, having a team-best 6-0 record in dual matches, which includes a 7-6 (10-8), 6-1 win over MSU's Dharani Niroshan.
