TROY, Ala. – The Trojan outfield will be the final position group we preview before the first pitch on Friday, with plenty of names to be on the lookout for this season.
"We have high expectations for our outfield group this upcoming season," head coach Skylar Meade said. "Newcomer Kole Myers has been off the charts since getting to campus and is the leader in the clubhouse to take reigns in centerfield. In the corner outfield spots, Kyle Mock, one of the top hitters in the Sun Belt, is likely to be in right field. In the other corner, multiple guys are vying for the spot, including returner Brandon Schrepf, who still is pitching as well, then newcomers Shane Lewis and Brooks Bryan.
Finishing the 2022 season as one of the Trojan's best hitters with a .310 batting average in 39 games played with 35 starts in the outfield, junior Kyle Mock returns. He drove in 38 runs on 44 hits, including 10 doubles and eight home runs which led the Trojans in 252 at-bats with a .549 slugging percentage which was also the highest of any Troy player. The Orlando, Fla. native saw five games with three RBIs against Indiana, UT Arlington, ULM, Samford, and Coastal Carolina, recording an 11-game hitting streak.
Along with Mock, Brandon Schrepf and Hudson Hartsfield return to Troy, both eager to continue contributing again.
"Hartsfield has improved his game and gave us a jolt late in the season," Meade said, as well as returner Brady Moore who has hit three home runs in the preseason. "We need this group to provide trustworthy defense and lots of offensive production to reach the goals we have set forth as a team."
Schrepf also came out of the bullpen seven times in relief and played in 34 games, making 27 starts in the outfield. He had a .240 batting average in his first season with the Trojans in 104 at-bats, driving in 20 RBIs on 25 hits, including four doubles and three home runs, scoring 18 runs for the Trojans. Schrepf hit the Trojan's only grand slam of the season against Georgia Southern.
Shane Lewis and Kole Meyers join the ranks of Trojan outfielders, with Lewis coming from the highly successful Chipola Junior College, and Myers is coming off a national championship at Louisiana State University at Eunice.
You can catch the outfield in action and the rest of the 2023 Trojans all year long from the newly renovated Riddle-Pace Field beginning on Friday, February 17th, when the Trojans open the season against Evansville for a three-game series.
