TROY, Ala. – The nation's leading rusher, Troy's Kimani Vidal, has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Vidal rushed for 245 yards and three touchdowns in Troy's win over Arkansas State this past weekend.
Â
Vidal is the only player in the country with multiple 200-yard games this season following his outburst against the Red Wolves, and he has rushed for 184 more yards than any other player this season.
Â
The Marietta, Ga., native averaged 8.8 yards per carry as he moved into second place in Troy program history with 3,184 career rushing yards, just 258 yards shy of becoming the Trojans' all-time rushing leader.
Â
Vidal has now accounted for 40 percent of Troy's 200-yard rushing games in program history, with his four, all of which have come in his last 10 games. In his last two games against Arkansas State, Vidal has rushed for 453 yards and seven touchdowns.
Â
The junior back has rushed for 835 yards this season, the most by a Troy player through six games in program history by 162 yards, and he is on pace to rush for 1,810 yards (13-game season), which would break Troy's single-season record by almost 500 yards.
Â
Vidal gave the Trojans a 14-0 lead with a pair of 1-yard touchdowns and then put the exclamation point on the victory with a 69-yard touchdown, the longest run of his career, with 8:13 to play in the game.
