Gunnar Watson Named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy quarterback Gunnar Watson has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week after the senior threw for a career-best 392 yards and three touchdowns in the Trojans' 31-13 victory at Texas State on Saturday.

All three of Watson's touchdown strikes came in the second half as he rallied the Trojans from a 10-7 halftime deficit, Troy's seventh win in 10 games the last two seasons when trailing at the half. His 392 yards were the most by a Troy quarterback since 2020 and rank as the 14th most in program history.

The Butler, Ga., native also got into the action on the ground with his fourth career rushing touchdown to tie the game at 7-all in the second quarter.Â

Watson led the Trojans on a precision 4-play, 75-yard drive to open the second half, completing all three of his attempts for 59 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jabre Barber, giving Troy a lead it would not relinquish.Â

He has thrown a touchdown pass in 11 straight games and has attempted 97 straight passes without an interception dating back to Troy's victory at Georgia State.

Troy hosts South Alabama on Thursday in the "Battle for the Belt" at The Vet; kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
