Women’s Golf Concludes Fall Season Ninth at White Sands Invitational

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Troy women's golf concluded its fall schedule Sunday morning at the White Sands Invitational with a ninth-place finish at the Ocean Club Golf Course.
Laura Fangmeyer wrapped up the tournament as the highest-finishing Trojan, tied for 11th with a score of 226 after shooting a tournament-best 72 in round three. The sophomore carded two birdies to end the round 1-under. Through the front nine, she sat 1-over before rattling off a birdie on the 11th, shooting a three on the 372-yard hole, followed by another on hole 13.
As a unit, the Trojans totaled 18 birdies to wrap up the tournament in ninth, beating out Tampa and Eastern Michigan. After three days of competition, the Trojans ranked ninth in the par 3 and 4 holes, averaging 3.33 and 4.49 shots, respectively.
On the 382-yard, par-4 ninth, Mercado carded a birdie to shoot 1-over in round three and finish tied for 22nd, while Bruna Roqueta added a birdie on the 398-yard par-4 fourth to shoot 79 and wrap the tournament in a tie for 39th.
Competing individually, Manya Saini shot a 76, carded one birdie to climb the leaderboard eight spots and finish tied for 44th. Katelynn Altese also jumped three spots to 54th, carding two birdies, including one on the 414-yard, par-4 18th hole to end her fall season.
The remaining Trojans competing individually ended the tournament tied for 50th (Brinson Hall) and 55th (Jillian Friyia) with scores of 245 and 248, respectively. Samantha Straight rounded out the Trojans, finishing tied for 56th with an 80 on the day.
The next time the Trojans compete is on Feb. 18 with the ASU Spring Classic.
