STATESBORO, Ga. – The Troy women's soccer battled hard but fell 3-2 on the road against Georgia Southern to wrap up its 2023 season. The Trojans have failed to qualify for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season.

Troy (6-10-2, 1-7-2 SBC) opened the scoring early, as Jordan Stack headed in a corner kick from Alisa Detlefsen in the eight minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Rubie Kelley and the Trojan defense held the powerful Georgia Southern (12-5, 7-4 SBC) offense at bay in the first 45 minutes. Kelley made five saves in the first half and helped keep the Trojans lead intact going into the final half of the season.

The Georgia Southern offense came alive in the 52^nd minute as Ansleigh Crenshaw scored to level the score at one off a pass from Erin Wilkins. Just six minutes later Bri Conley gave the Eagles the 2-1 lead, with assists going to Simone Timm and Meredith Pugh.

Troy wasn't out of it yet, as they answered in the 70^th minute as Carley White fielded a rebound off the Eagles goalie and buried it to make it a tied game.

Timm scored the go-ahead goal, which proved to be the game winner, in the 78^th minute off an assist by Wilkins, to make it 3-2 Georgia Southern.

The Eagles offense just proved to be too much to handle, as they registered 22 shots – 10 on goal.

Kelley made seven saves for the Trojans, who registered 10 shots – seven on goal. Quinn Wilson made five saves for the Eagles.

"We played tough tonight against the top team in the East Division. But we just couldn't get over the finish line once again. Overall, the season started very well but we faded. As a coaching staff, we now know what this conference is about. So now its time to go back to the drawing board and rebuild the team in our own vision."
