JONESBORO, Ark. – Troy women's golf is tied for fifth place behind a trio of individuals tied for 20th place following Monday's opening two rounds of the Lady Red Wolves Classic at the Sage Meadows Golf Club.
Troy shot 21-over as a team in the first two rounds but went into the clubhouse feeling good about itself following a 6-over 294 in the second round thanks to Katelynn Altese's 1-under 71, her first round in the red this season.
The Trojans led the field playing the par 5s to a combined 4-under par and were second with an 18-over on the par-4s. Troy led the way with 111 total pars from its five golfers, while Alyssa Mercado's 5-under on the par-5s paced the field.
Mercado, Laura Fangmeyer and Bruna Roqueta are all tied for 20th place at 5-over par. Mercado led the way for the Trojans with seven birdies over her first 36 holes of play, while Roqueta added five birdies, and Fangmeyer and Altese each had four. Playing as an individual, Jillian Friyia matched Mercado's seven birdies.
Altese is tied for 28th place, a shot behind the trio in 20th, while Samantha Straight is tied for 53rd place at 10-over and Friyia is tied for 63rd.
Play concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
