TROY, Ala. – Troy's Richard Jibunor and Scott Taylor Renfroe have been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday afternoon for their performances in Troy's 19-0 victory at Army.
Â
Jibunor had a disruptive day during Troy's historic performance at Army as he forced two fumbles, recorded a pair of sacks and finished with five tackles. The senior's effort helped Troy hand Army its first shutout at Michie Stadium since 2003.Â
Â
He is tied for first among active players in the FBS ranks with nine career forced fumbles and is second with 26 career sacks between his time at Troy and Auburn. Additionally, he moved into fifth in Sun Belt history with 24 career sacks as a Trojan.
Â
Troy held Army to just 255 yards of total offense, its sixth opponent out of seven to not reach the 300-yard mark, and the Trojans have held 14 opponents to 19 points or fewer since the start of the 2022 season. The Trojans have held their last three opponents to a combined 10 points; it is the fewest points allowed by a Troy team over a three-game stretch in one season since 1985 -- West Alabama (38-7), West Georgia (42-0), Valdosta State (10-3).
Â
Renfroe etched his name in the Troy and Sun Belt record books over the weekend as he tied the program record with four field goals in the victory over the Black Knights. He accounted for 13 of Troy's 19 points in the game, all of which came in a driving rainstorm.
Â
His 15 field goals this season are tied for the most in Sun Belt history through the first seven games of the season and are the most by a Trojan since at least 2000. He has made multiple field goals in six of Troy's seven games and is tied for the national lead with his 15 makes.
Â
Troy is off this week before traveling to Texas State on Oct. 24 for a critical Sun Belt West Division showdown.
