TROY, Ala. - Junior Troy volleyball player and current Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)Â representative Julia Brooks has been selected by the Sun Belt Conference to represent the conference at the annual NCAA Leadership Forum held in Baltimore, MD., on April 13-16.
Â
"I am very excited that the Sun Belt selected Julia to represent the conference at the NCAA athlete leadership forum," head coach Josh Lauer said. "She is a tremendous model of a Troy and Sun Belt student-athlete. She is a leader on the court with her play and dedication to the classroom and service within our campus and greater Troy communities. She is a caring leader and exhibits personal discipline in her choices and actions. I believe she will represent Troy and the Sun Belt well at the leadership forum, and I know she will embrace this opportunity to its fullest."
Â
A first-team All-Sun Belt recipient and a CSC Academic All-District honoree, Brooks has been a valuable member of the Troy volleyball team. Brooks, a physical education major, has totaled the third most kills for the Trojans this past season with 331 while leading the team in blocks with 102. Earlier this season, Brooks became the all-time leader in Troy program history for most career solo and total blocks. She became only the 12th Trojan in program history to total 1000 career kills
Â
"Julia is a tremendous example of what it means to be a student-athlete and will represent Troy University and the Sun Belt Conference with distinction and class at the NCAA Leadership Forum in Baltimore," Troy Athletics Director Brent Jones said. "From her accomplishments on the court to her outstanding academic career and her tireless efforts serving our community, we can't think of a more deserving Trojan to take part in this amazing opportunity."
Â
The NCAA hosts the forum each year. It is designed to present differing leadership qualities and strategies while also providing instruction in evaluating the differences and similarities across all sports, campuses, and cultures.
Â
The Leadership Forum, created in 1997, has been a life-changing experience for more than 5,000 student-athletes, many of who have grown personally and professionally, gained a new network of peers and friends and felt the rewards and importance of community service.
Â
Student-athletes selected to attend the forum return to campus with invaluable leadership skills, the experience of exploring the relationship between personal values, core beliefs, and behavioral styles, and a thorough understanding of the NCAA as a whole, the different divisional perspectives, and the valuable role of Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC).
