COLUMBIA, S.C. β No record was safe from the Trojans this weekend as another strong performance from Troy at the Carolina Challenge saw six athletes finish first in their events, two school records fall, and plenty of personal bests.
Β
"I am very proud of the team and how they performed this weekend," Director Marc Davis said. "It started off a bit rocky at first, but we turned things around quickly. When you see school and personal records being set consistently, it raises the bar for the competitors in their respective events. We had some very high-level performances. We had many athletes step up and conquer some barriers. It was a good weekend. Now it's time to get back to the grind and sharpen up in all events."
Β
First, Dwight Mason, Gabriel Peacock, Alex Robinson, and Chance Armstrong blew past the competition in the men's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:16.98 for a first-place finish and a school record. Next, Tanner Guest saw a personal best set in her first-place finish in the women's 1 mile after crossing the finish line in 5:02.19.
Β
The women's 3000m was led by a Trojan as Cadi Rowe had a time of 10:15.27, setting a personal best. Jaggerd Moore, in the men's high jump, with a mark of 2.10, took home first place and set a personal record.
Β
Both the women's high jump and triple jump saw Troy finish first as Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente's 5.48 mark in the long jump was her best as a Trojan, and Jade Johnson in the women's triple jump set her career best after an 11.66m mark.
Β
The school record in both the men's 200m and 800m now have new holders as Alex Robinson recorded a time of 21.24 for his best time in the cardinal and white in the 200m event and
Chance Armstrong in the men's 800m finished in 1:53.66 to have his name in the record books.
Β
The Trojans will look to carry their momentum into next week as they head back to the Carolinas for the Camel City Invite in Winston-Salem, N.C. Feb. 3-4.
