MOBILE, Ala. – After posting a 293 on day one of the USA Intercollegiate, the Troy University women's golf team shot seven strokes higher on Sunday afternoon in Mobile at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course and sit in 11th place overall after two rounds.
Laura Fangmeyer again had the best round of golf for the Trojans. After posting an even 72 yesterday, the freshman followed with another strong performance and shot even par once again on Saturday to finish tied for 19th overall.
Jillian Friyia still holds the second-best score among the Trojan group after two rounds despite running into some trouble on the back nine this afternoon. After recording two birdies on the front nine, Friyia had bogeys on 10, 12, 14, and 16, along with a double bogey on 15, to finish the day plus four on the course. The rookie's performance leaves her tied for 39th overall.
Katelynn Altese, like Fangmeyer, was consistent again this afternoon for Troy. After shooting a 76 on Saturday afternoon, Altese matched the same score today. Three straight bogeys on the sixth, seventh, and eighth holes put her down early, but she salvaged part of her round with a birdie on the 16th hole.
Brinson Hall was one of the bright spots in the tournament opener for the Trojans on Saturday but faltered on Sunday afternoon. Hall recorded three bogeys on the front nine, including one triple bogey that set her back before the turn. However, Hall would settle in on the back nine and would go on to register seven-consecutive pars before finishing the day with a 79 overall score.
Freshman Samantha Straight had a rollercoaster of an afternoon for Troy on day two of the USA Intercollegiate. The rookie began the front nine with four-straight pars and would go on to finish three over through the first nine holes. Straight bogeyed holes 10 and 15 but would net her first birdie of the day on the 16th hole to finish with a 76 for the second-straight day.
Straight, Hall, and Altese are all tied for 57th overall after two rounds of golf. The trio of Trojans has shot a 152 through two days in Mobile.
