Trojans Five Over Par After One Round at USA Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy University women's golf team finished the first round of action at the USA Intercollegiate with a 293 on Saturday, which netted a score of five over par and a tied for 10^th place finish overall.

Laura Fangmeyer and Jillian Friyia led the Trojans on day one after shooting a 72 to kick off the tournament and their college careers.

Fangmeyer was steady all day long as her only blemish on the scorecard was a bogey on the eighth hole, which was later erased with a birdie on 15. She would finish her first collegiate round at even par.

Friyia had an auspicious start to her opening round as she would come out of the gate with a bogey on the first hole. Three straight pars for the freshman earned momentum that sparked back-to-back birdies on five and six to put her one under par. She would stay even throughout the day but would bogey her last hole to earn her a 72 on day one.

Newcomer Katelynn Altese netted a team-high four birdies in round one action. The freshman was one under par through her first four holes and rebounded after a bogey on seven to birdie the 10^th hole to bring her back to one under. Altese, however, would double-bogey 14 and would net back-to-back bogeys on her way to a 76 and a three-over-par afternoon.

Brinson Hall earned the start to open the new campaign and finished one over par after a rollercoaster day on the course. After a bogey on three, Hall rallied with a birdie on the following hole. The sophomore would have a steady back nine as she would finish the afternoon one over par for the day.

Samantha Straight would bring up the rear for the Trojans on day one after finishing four over par in her first collegiate outing. Straight had three straight bogeys in holes six through eight, but despite rebounding with a birdie on 12, Straight would still finish plus four on the day.
