GADSDEN, Ala. – Brantley Scott of the Troy University men's golf team netted his best finish of the 2022 campaign on Tuesday morning after shooting a 72 to earn him a tied for a fifth-place finish at the GMAC Invitational played at RTJ Silver Lakes.
The Trojans moved up one spot from where they finished after 36 holes of golf on Monday. In addition, four of the five golfers in the Trojan lineup posted their best tournament scores on Tuesday.
Scott had an electric start to his day on the course, recording birdies in three of the first four holes to move up to as high as third on the individual leaderboards. Then, however, an eight on a par five slipped him down the rankings, but he recovered with two birdies with a few bogeys scattered on the back nine to finish even par for the day.
Will McFadden was the only Trojan who did not shoot better than his previous two rounds. The senior finished the day with a 76 and concluded the tournament in 14th place. He started his day at even par through four holes, but a triple bogey at the turn left him at three over through nine. He would, however, respond with a pair of birdies to minimize the damage and finished four over on the day.
Nicklas Borrmann bested his round-one score by three strokes and his second-round score by a pair of strokes on Tuesday. He began his day by shooting one over par through the first nine holes. He then shot five consecutive pars on holes 10-14 before finishing his day with a pair of bogeys to finish his tournament with a 230 score and a tied for 28th finish.
George Burch had an up-and-down second day at RTJ Silver Lakes. Through three holes, he was sitting at three over par. He would net a birdie on the sixth hole, but a bogey on the eighth frame left him at three over through nine. A quick birdie on the 10th hole had his momentum going in the right direction, but bogeys on 12 and 14 left him with a 76 on the day and a 50th place finish overall.
Jake Springer finished his tournament in Gadsden with a 238 to match his teammate's 50th place finish. Springer had a difficult start to his day as he recorded a bogey and a triple bogey on the first and third holes. He would, however, rebound with six-straight pars. The back nine for Springer was a rollercoaster as he would not record a par on the back nine. He began with three-consecutive birdies before recording three straight bogeys. He finished his round with a birdie, a bogey, and a double bogey to finish at 78 on the day.
