TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team returns to the confines of the Troy Soccer Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m. to take on Georgia Southern in its conference opener.
The Trojans (2-3-1) had their three-match unbeaten streak snapped by Jacksonville State last Sunday, falling 3-2, while Georgia Southern (1-2-3) also had its unbeaten streak of four snapped by Kennesaw State, 2-0.
Falling to JSU
Sunday afternoon saw Troy enter the JSU Soccer Complex on a roll, and it continued on the offensive end early. The Trojans found themselves up early, 1-0, when Jordan Stack received the pass from Lisa Blankestein in the air to head in her second goal of the season.
JSU responded quickly with back-to-back goals from Vanessa Majia and Camryn Davis in a three-minute span – both goals were on the end of corner kick opportunities.
After 50 silent minutes, Majia put her second goal on the board to extend the Gamecock lead, 3-1. Erin Bloomfield put Troy back in contention with a made penalty kick at the 85-minute mark to bring Troy within one, 3-2. Despite some late attempts by Ashley Rainho and Stack, Troy fell for the first time since 2013 to JSU.

Looking to End the Three-Match Drought
Series tied 6-6-0.
The Eagles roll into Troy on a three-match win streak in the overall series, with their last loss coming, 4-1, back in 2019. Last season saw Troy falter in Statesboro, 2-1, despite a late goal from Bloomfield at the 87:42 mark to initiate a comeback.
Nonconference play didn't go the way the Eagles sought, seizing only one victory over North Florida, 3-1, back on Aug. 25. In their last match against Kennesaw, the Eagles tied the Owls in shots at 14 but fell with Katie Oakley giving up two crucial goals.
Goals have been evenly distributed for Georgia Southern, with five different players with one goal. Erin Wilkins has taken the back seat in scoring but has led the charge in assists with the second-most in the Sun Belt at three.
