CHOUDRANT, La. – The Troy men's golf team posted a solid two-under-par round to kick off the 2022-23 season on Sunday at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. The Trojans are currently sitting tied for 11th out of 23 teams.
The Trojans received an excellent performance from Will McFadden on Sunday as he was one of two Trojans who shot under par on day one. McFadden saw three birdies through his first five holes of the day. He shot two under on the back nine and was one over on the front.
Sophomore standout Jake Springer started his season with a bang and matched McFadden's score of 71 on Sunday. Springer bogeyed his second hole of the day and finished one over through his first nine holes. However, the Florida native had a great second half to his day as he would finish his afternoon with back-to-back birdies to finish one under par.
Brantley Scott's start to the tournament was steady through his first nine holes of the afternoon. A birdie on the 16th hole gave him a 35 through his first nine holes, but a birdie on the ninth hole would even the back-to-back bogeys on the sixth and seventh holes and left him with an even 72 on the day.
Junior George Burch had an eventful afternoon at Squire Creek. Burch started his day with back-to-back bogeys and had three through his first five holes. However, birdies on the 13th and 16th holes gave Burch a plus two score after nine. The Mobile native would rebound with a solid front nine score as two birdies would even the score, giving him a 72 after one round.
Nicklas Borrmann matched two of his teammates' scores after 18 holes at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. Borrmann had a score of 37 to start his afternoon on the back nine and found himself two over par after 11 holes. The junior, however, would finish his day strong, netting birdies on the sixth and ninth holes.
