TROY, Ala. – The Troy Trojans men's golf team will look to open the 2022-23 campaign strong as they travel to Louisiana Tech to take part in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate for the second straight season.
"I am looking forward to seeing our guys compete this weekend in our first event of the fall at Squire Creek," said head coach Forrest Schultz. "This event is special to me because it was my first one as the coach at Troy University, and that weekend we really established our identity as a program, and it set us on a path for a great season."
The Trojans will look to continue their momentum from last season after finishing in the top five in six tournaments a year ago. The Trojans were able to capture tournament victories three times but finished tied for ninth in the Sun Belt Conference championship.
Troy's new roster will feature a good mix of veterans and newcomers as the Trojans will sport five upperclassmen and will welcome Trent Trousdale and Will Simpson as freshmen for the 2022-23 campaign.
"This week's line-up will feature a crew of Veterans who not only know the course but have now worked inside my program for over a year. I was proud of how these guys stepped up over the last few weeks, I saw a huge improvement from this time last year, and part of that is because we brought in new talent this fall, and it really elevated how these guys prepared in the summer to stay on top of the line-up."
Troy finished 12th out of 20 teams to open the 2021-22 season last year at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. Returning star Will McFadden led the way for the Trojans, finishing just outside the top-20 in the competition, while Nicklas Borrmann and Kyle Cornelius netted top-50 finishes.
The tournament gets underway on Sunday with round one while rounds two and three will be played on Monday and Tuesday.
