Trojans Look to Keep Momentum Up Against Samford

TROY, Ala – The Trojans take their four-game win streak to Birmingham Tuesday, as they get set to play the Samford Bulldogs at 6 p.m. from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
This will mark the first meeting this season as rain postponed their scheduled game back in March. The Trojans lead the all-time series 44-26, with the two schools meeting twice last year, seeing Samford coming out victorious in both.

Following their sweep of Georgia State over the weekend, the Trojans now have the best-earned run average in the Sun Belt Conference. With an ERA of 4.04 on the season, Troy ranks 25th in the nation, and their 10.3 strikeouts per game are 26th in the country while being the highest in program history.
With five triples this year, Donovan Whibbs ranks seventh in the nation in the category, and he moves into sixth all-time for most triples in a season at Troy; he is two away from tying Brandon Lockridge for most triples in a season at seven. Whibbs currently leads Troy with a .319 batting average.
Coming out of the bullpen, Keaton Fuller has been dominant all year, proving one of the best freshmen in the conference. In 33.1 innings pitched, Fuller has struck out 43 batters while only walking nine. His 2.43 ERA is the lowest on the team, and he is coming off of an outing where he went four innings striking out a career-high six batters, earning his second win.
After making his first mid-week start of the season at Georgia Tech, Bay Witcher gets the call on the mound once again. Witcher went a season-high 6.1 innings pitched and held the Yellow Jacket offense to four runs on seven hits.
Samford enters play fourth in the Southern Conference. With a team batting average of .260 and an earned run average of 6.05, the Bulldogs rank seventh out of eight teams in both categories.
The Bulldogs will turn to freshman Will Lynch who is 0-4 on the season and allowing 11.44 runs per game in 19.2 innings pitched.
