MOBILE, Ala. – Troy fell to the No. 1 seed Louisiana, 9-1, in the squad's second game of the Sun Belt Tournament Thursday morning at Jaguar Field.
Â
Kennedi Gaton again proved to be the bright spot in Troy's lineup, recording the team's lone RBI of the contest.
Â
The Trojans (30-20) struck first in the top of the second frame when Gaton ripped a two-out single through the left side to plate Blake Gibson, who led off with a single to right field.
Â
However, Louisiana (43-11) retaliated with four runs off two hits and a pair of errors in the home half of the second to take a 4-1 lead. Â
Â
Leanna Johnson (20-12) issued a pair of walks to start the second after a slew of questionable illegal pitch calls. Maddie Hayden then kickstarted the four-run affair with a base-clearing single to left field.
Â
After a fielding error plated a third run for Louisiana, Taylor McKinney entered to work in the circle. A wild pitch from McKinney plated the fourth and final run of the second inning.
Â
Troy looked to strike in the top of third after Jade Sinness and Taylor McKinney both singled to put runners on with one out, but both were left stranded.
Â
Libby Baker entered in relief of McKinney in the top of third and finished the game inside the circle for the Trojans.
Â
A two-run home run in the bottom of the third saw the Ragin' Cajuns take a 6-1 lead. Louisiana then added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the game in five innings.
Â
Johnson suffered the loss for the Trojans, being tagged with a pair of earned runs and two hits.
Â
Sam Landry (19-3) scatter four hits and a run en route to her 19th win of the season.
