WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Troy men's golf team upped its competition level for its final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championship and finds itself in sixth place at the Boilermaker Invitational, which opened with two rounds Saturday at the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course.

Conditions were less than ideal as the start was delayed by an hour as temperatures were below freezing. Troy shot 23-over for the day but rallied back with a 7-over 291 in the second round on the par-71, 7,275-yard course.

Brantley Scott and Nicklas Borrmann are tied for 25^th place at 4-over par, while Kyle Cornelius is tied for 34^th at 7-over. Scott rocketed 18 spots up the leaderboard from round to round after shooting a 2-under 69 in the afternoon, an 8-shot improvement from his morning tally. The Trojan freshman carded seven birdies and an eagle on his day, but the difference was just two bogeys in round two compared to six bogeys and a triple-bogey in the opening round.

Borrmann opened with a 3-over 74 before shooting 1-under 70 in the second round. He fired three birdies in each of his two rounds. Cornelius made a five-spot climb on the leaderboard with a 2-over 73 in the second round after shooting 76 in the morning as he finished with four birdies.

Will McFadden went the other way, falling 26 spots into a tie for 40^th place; he opened with a 2-over 73 but ended the day with a 77 to move to 8-over for the day, while Jake Springer sits in 81^st place at 21-over.

No. 21 Illinois (-7) and No. 31 Purdue (-6) are the only schools under par, while Rutgers (+7), Illinois State (+11) and Eastern Illinois (+13) round out the top five.

Teams wrap up play with 18 holes Sunday morning.
