Trojans Held Fruitless Against South Alabama

TROY, Ala. - The Troy women's tennis team falters to in-state rival South Alabama, 4-0, on Friday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex, dropping the team's second-straight match.
With the Trojans' (7-11, 2-5) second-straight loss in conference play, the team falls to eighth in the Sun Belt standings while USA (16-3, 5-1 SBC) rises to second.
Battle Till the End
The Trojans found themselves down 3-0 with match point in sight for the Jaguars.
Kristina Kukaras kept the Trojans alive, winning her first set 6-2 and holding firm to start the second.
The sophomore took it to Yu Fujioka in the second set, eventually falling to the Jaguar in the second set 6-4.
The German native battled through her fair share of adversity in the extra set before dropping the match point, 6-4.
Fumbling Doubles
Troy entered doubles competition with a chance to steal the opening point against a 22-4 Jaguar team.
Despite Olivia Elliott/Franziska Ahrend being blanked by Otoha Aoki/Milka Pasanen, Anastasiia Khokhlova/Andrea Widing had Nikola Kohoutova/Luminita Tutunaru on the ropes, leading 4-0 in the match.
However, the following six points went USA's way as Khokhlova/Widing gave up the point to the Jaguars, 6-4, leaving the 5-3 comeback on court two in Kukaras/Michelle Ncube unfinished.
