Hall Pushes Troy Past Little Rock with Walk-off Single

TROY, Ala. – After overcoming a deficit on two separate occasions, senior shortstop Jesse Hall had a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give Troy a 5-4 win over Little Rock Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field.
Tied at four, heading into the bottom of the ninth, a Clay Stearns walk started the magic for Troy. A Kyle Mock single and an intentional walk to William Sullivan loaded the bases and set the stage for Hall.
In a 1-1 count, Hall laced a single to center field to give Troy (18-7, 5-2) their second walk-off win this season and the Trojans their ninth straight win at home.
"It was an awesome moment," Hall said. "It's the first walk-off I've been a part of, and it couldn't have come at a better time for my team."
Hall finished the night 3-5 to go along with Sullivan's big night, having launched two home runs in the game himself.
After freshman Keaton Fuller went a season-high 4.2 innings and gave up a run on one hit, striking out five batters, Grayson Stewart came on as the third pitcher for Troy and earned the win (4-1) after two innings of one-hit baseball.
Sawyer Small Wood (2-3) of Little Rock (11-12, 1-6) is given the loss after Little Rock starter Hayden Arnold cruised through five innings, retiring 14 of 15 batters at one point.
Logan Ross made his second start of the season and, first since the opening series, went 2.1 innings, allowing three runs with only one being earned on five hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.
Little Rock took advantage of a first-inning throwing error and scored two runs to begin the inning. However, Ross settled in and limited the damage with back-to-back strikeouts with the bases loaded to escape the jam.
After hitting in the leadoff spot for the past 15 games, Sullivan was placed in the second spot in the lineup, and he took advantage by sending a ball 364 feet over the scoreboard for his second home run of the season cutting the Little Rock deficit to 2-1.
Little Rock had the leadoff runner on in the first three innings and was able to capitalize, bringing their third run of the ball game with a bunt for a base hit.
The tie game didn't last long, as after a triple from Tyler Williams came around to score off a wild pitch to give Little Rock the advantage once more.
Kyle Mock stepped up and singled to lead off in the bottom half of the sixth. Sullivan once again was up in the batter's box in a big moment and hit his second home run of the evening to tie the game at three.
The last time a Trojan had two home runs in the same game was March 24, 2021, when Logan Cerny did it against Alabama State.
Troy didn't allow the deficit to affect them, tying the game for the second straight inning in part to heads up base running from Clay Stearns, who scored from second base after a throwing error by the Little Rock shortstop got behind the first baseman.
Up Next: The battle between Trojans continues tomorrow, Saturday, April 2, at 3 p.m. as Troy looks to make it four straight wins and 11 straight wins at home.
