JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – ShaeLee Scarberry and Elisabeth Preus skyrocketed up the leaderboard to lead Troy in Tuesday's final round of the Don Benbow Invitational at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course. The Trojans climbed a spot to finish fourth as a team.
Scarberry moved up 10 spots into a tie for fourth place following a final round 72 on the par-71, 6,021-yard course, while Preus moved up seven spots into a tie for seventh after shooting a 2-over 73 on the day.
Scarberry, who began on fourth tee box in the shotgun start, moved to 1-under par following a birdie on No. 17, her second of the day, but back-to-back bogeys to close her round pushed her card back into the black. The fourth-place finish is Scarberry's third fourth place or better result this year.
Preus carded a birdie on No. 8 to go to 1-under par before running into trouble on the 17th and 18th. The top-10 finish is her third of the year – all of which have been seventh-place results.
Troy fired the best round of the day among the 13-team field with a 14-over 298, which tied for its eighth-best round of the year. After opening the day in fifth, the Trojans jumped past Indiana State into fourth place. Butler edged out IUPUI by one shot for the team title, while Eastern Michigan finished third, three shots back of first, and four shots ahead of Troy.
Elizabeth Caldarelli and Alyssa Mercado tied for 17th place at 14-over for the two-round event after shooting matching 77s on Tuesday. Anna Claire Little was a shot back in a tie for 23rd and Bruna Roqueta tied for 32nd place at 17-over.
