Mercado Paces Troy on Day One of Spring Break Shootout

DADE CITY, Fla. – Alyssa Mercado fired her first career round under par to lead the Troy women's golf team in Monday's opening two rounds of the Spring Break Shootout at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
Mercado shot a 3-under 68 in the afternoon round to climb 20 spots up the leaderboard into fourth place, while Troy sits in fourth place as a team and just seven shots off the lead.
After a bogey on her first hole of the second round, Mercado birdied three straight around the turn and added another on the par-3 fourth for her round of 3-under. The round was the first by a Trojan in the 60s this season. She opened the tournament with a 3-over 74 in the first round.
Troy fired its best round of the season relative to score and fifth-best relative to par with a 6-over 290 in the afternoon round after posting a 296 in the morning round. Florida Gulf Coast leads Western Kentucky by two shots on the team leaderboard.
ShaeLee Scarberry is three shots back of Mercado in a tie for 10th place after rounds of 73 and 72 on Monday; she carded two birdies in the first round before rolling off four in round two, including a stretch of three of four holes to end her round.
Elizabeth Caldarelli was even through 18 holes before shooting 4-over in round two to sit in a tie for 13th place, Bruna Roqueta is tied for 36th place at 9-over par, Anna Claire Little is tied for 45th place at 11-over and Elisabeth Preus is tied for 51st place at 12-over.
Troy will play with the two teams immediately behind it on the leaderboard in Tuesday's final round as Morehead State and St John's will make up the threesome.
