HOUMA, La. – Playing for something a little more than the name on the front of their shirts this week, the Troy men's golf team carded 37 birdies (actually 36 and one eagle) during Monday's opening two rounds of the Ellendale Intercollegiate at the Ellendale Country Club. The Trojans committed a donation per birdie to support the University of the Southwest golf programs.

Troy is in sixth place overall as a team at 11-over par after shooting even par in the first round of the day. Kyle Cornelius, who is playing as an individual, is Troy's clubhouse leader at 1-under par, Brantley Scott and Will McFadden are tied for ninth place at even par.

Cornelius was responsible for eight of Troy's birdies, with four in each of Monday's rounds. He opened the day with a 2-under 70 before following with a 1-over 73 in the afternoon session. McFadden had an unusual opening 18 holes where he pared 17 of the 18 opportunities with an eagle sprinkled in on the par-5 16^th. He followed with a 2-over 74 in the afternoon round.

Southeastern Louisiana holds a commanding 8-shot lead over North Alabama heading into Tuesday's final round, while Incarnate Word is 12 shots back in third.

Troy's freshman phenom Brantley Scott is tied with McFadden at even par after shooting 2-under with five birdies in the morning, followed by a 2-over 74 with three birdies in the afternoon. Nicklas Borrmann added five birdies and is tied for 37^th place at 4-over, Jake Springer added five birdies – all in the first round – and is tied for 48^th place at 7-over, Reagan Harrell is tied for 61^st place and George Burch is tied for 67^th place.
