Gainous Earns First Sun Belt Weekly Honor

Troy, Ala. – After a strong performance on Friday, Garrett Gainous has been named Sun Belt Pitcher of the week for the first time in his career, the league office announced Tuesday.
Gainous is coming off his second quality start after guiding Troy to victory over Louisiana in their series opener over the weekend for the Trojan's sixth straight win.
"Garrett has been very consistent all season in his ability to attack the zone," head coach Skylar Meade said. "This past week, he set the tone for our weekend with his game one performance, and he certainly deserves this recognition."
Gainous went a season-high six innings allowing only one run on five hits and no walks while striking out six to earn the honor.
The Cairo, Ga. Native is now 3-1 on the season with a 3.16 earned run average. He leads the Trojans in both innings pitched (25.2) and strikeouts (35)
Gainous has helped lead this Trojan pitching staff to their highest strikeout per nine innings in program history. In 167 innings pitched, the Trojans have totaled 194 strikeouts which equals 10.46 strikeouts per contest. In addition, Troy's 3.50 team earned run average is the third lowest in the conference as they hold opposing batters to just a .244 batting average.
The sophomore now adds to his growing list of accolades after being named the Sun Belt freshman of the year, a freshman all-American last season and was named to this season's 2022 preseason Perfect Game All-Conference team.
Gainous and the Trojans return to action tonight at 6 p.m. against Alabama State from Riddle Pace field.
