TROY, Ala. – Headlined by Jashanti Simmons being named the 2022 WBCA Two-Year College Player of the Year, two Troy signees were tabbed WBCA Two-Year College Coaches' All-America Team members, the WBCA announced last week.
Â
Tai'Sheka Porchia joins Simmons as one of 10 two-year players selected as 2022 WBCA Two-Year College Coaches' All-Americans.
Â
"Earning a spot on the WBCA All-America Team is an elite honor for any athlete," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "When I saw that not one, but two of our incoming Trojans were named to the team, I was thrilled for them and really excited about the foundation of next year's team." Â
Â
Simmons will head to Troy out of Georgia Highlands College, where she has led the Chargers to the NJCAA national championship game, which will be played tonight in Lubbock, Texas. In her storied career in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association, Simmons has notched GCAA Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors.
Â
"Jashanti is a two-time All-American. She has led her team at Georgia Highlands to new heights, and I believe she will help us achieve new levels of success at Troy as well."
Â
Porchia will head to Troy out of Pensacola State College, where she was named to a First Team All-Panhandle Conference selection. Porchia led Pensacola in scoring and rebounding in conference play averaging a double-double with 16.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
Â
"We signed Tai in the early signing period, and I kept following her progress at Pensacola State this season. Each time I saw her play, I would leave thinking that she might be the best post player in the nation at the two-year college level. This honor proves that my hunch was correct. She is an amazing talent, and I'm thankful she will be joining us soon at Troy."
