Troy Edged in a Rollercoaster Ride Finish

TROY, Ala. - Troy women's tennis drops its first home match of the season, losing in a gritty match against Georgia State, 4-2, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
With their third-straight loss in conference play, the Trojans (5-9, 0-3 SBC) seek to end their longest drought to start conference play in Coach Rawia Elisi's tenure.
Three-Straight
The Trojans had the lead, heading into singles competition, 1-0 before the Panthers took control.
Olivia Elliott, 6-4, 6-1, and Michelle Ncube, 6-4, 6-4, allowed GSU to take the one-point lead, 2-1, after dropping their singles match.
Anastasiia Khokhlova battled hard in her singles match despite losing the first set, 3-6. Khokhlova took it to Eva Chivu in the second, easily winning 6-2 to force the extra set. Going back-and-forth with Chivu, Khokhlova eventually fell, 4-6 to put the Panthers at game point.
Hagar Amin put Troy back in rhythm, ending the three-point drought over Alexia Alvarez. After falling in the first set, 3-6, Amin took straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, placing Troy back into the match, 3-2.
In the end, Kristina Kukaras couldn't come away with the win over Sofya Golubovskaya to tie the match, battling hard through all three sets. After taking the first set, 6-4, Kukaras lost in heartbreaking fashion, 5-7, 4-6, to lose the match, 4-2.
Doubles Domination
Troy started hot in doubles competition, dominating to take the point in straight sets.
Khokhlova/Andrea Widing secured the first doubles match, taking down Golubovskaya/Angel Carney, 6-4 - Golubovskaya/ Carney were 8-1 before this match.
Not far behind them was Elliott/Franziska Ahrend, who took their match, 6-3, defeating the Panthers for the first point of the match, 1-0.

"This team battled hard and was tough throughout. Unfortunately, it didn't fall our way, but it was such a rollercoaster of a match. But our girls were tough, and they never gave up. I'm so proud of them for their performances against a really good team in Georgia State. I have no doubt in my mind that they are ready for tomorrow."
