Alyssa Mercado Named Sun Belt Golfer of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Coming off a pair of solid performances the last two weeks, Troy freshman Alyssa Mercado has been named the Sun Belt Women's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Thursday. The Sun Belt issues golf awards every two weeks.

Most recently, Mercado placed fourth out of a field of 84 golfers after shooting a 2-under 211 at the Spring Break Shootout. During the event, she carded Troy's first two rounds in the 60s this year, and her 54-hole total was tied for the Trojans' best this season. Mercado's individual finish propelled Troy to a third-place team finish among the 15-team field, tied for Troy's best of the year.

Two weeks ago, the Lake Mary, Fla., native tied for 17^th at the Benbow Invitational thanks to a final round 73 at an event where the average score was well in the 80s.

Mercado lowered her season stroke average to 75.25 for the second, second on Troy's team, while her 74.63 average across three spring events leads the Trojans.
