TROY, Ala. – After another stellar 2-0 performance last week, Leanna Johnson has picked up her third straight Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week honor, the league office announced Tuesday.
Â
"I am so proud of Leanna for earning this honor for the third week in a row," co-interim head coach Holly Ward said. "She is doing an incredible job in the circle. We know she is always going to give us a chance to win, and the team revels in that. I am excited to see her continue to shine this season!"
Â
The Trojan ace has earned all three Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week awards given out this season.
Â
On Friday, Johnson carried a perfect game into the seventh inning against Miami (OH), who is fresh off an NCAA Regional appearance after dominating the MAC last season. The Brantley, Ala., native picked up the win after allowing just one hit in the seventh and a walk in the eighth.
Â
Johnson followed her impressive outing Friday with a two-hit shutout of Ohio State on Saturday. The Buckeyes entered the weekend ranked No. 25 by Extra Innings Softball.
Â
The junior sat down 10 Buckeyes to earn the win and mark the first time in program history Troy has shut out a ranked opponent.
Â
On the weekend, Johnson fanned 18 batters en route to a 0.00 ERA and only allowed three hits over 15 innings of work.
Â
Johnson and the Trojans will return to action on Friday in the LSU Invitational. First pitch against No. 22 LSU is set for 4 p.m.
