Tidal Wave in Tuscaloosa
The spring season didn't kick off the way the Trojans wanted against the Crimson Tide, suffering a clean sweep.Â
Â
The match opened in double's competition where Troy was quickly handed a loss, with Michelle Ncube / Kristina Kukaras losing, 6-0, against Ola Pitak / Kasia Pitak.
Â
From there, the Trojans continued to fall, dropping four straight points. Ncube fought back, being the only Trojan to win a set through the day, 6-4, against Petra Sedlackova. In the end, Ncube couldn't finish the job, losing in the third set, 1-0.
Â
Departing to Deland
The last these teams faced off was Feb. 8, 2020, where the Hatters (4-0) walked away victorious, 5-2. Strong showings from Matea Mihaljevic (6-2, 6-0) and Anastasiia Khokhlova (6-3, 7-5) in singles competition put Troy up 2-1 early.Â
Â
Despite the strong start, the Trojans fell in their following four points to lose the match.
Â
The Hatters of Stetson enter Saturday's match undefeated, opening their season with a five-match homestand.Â
Â
Through four matches this season, all but one of the Hatters' players are undefeated in singles competition, combining for an individual record of 22-1. Leading the way is Nadejda Maslova, with a team-high four total wins in singles.Â
