TROY, Ala. – Following six straight matches away from home, the Troy men's tennis team returns to the Lunsford Tennis Complex to play host to Middle Georgia State on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The Trojans (7-5) are coming off a third-place finish at the HEB Invitational over the weekend, where they battled two of the nation's top 70 teams in close setbacks. Troy opened with a 4-0 victory over DePaul before falling to top-70 UTSA, 4-3, and top-50 East Tennessee State, 4-2.
Against the Roadrunners, the Trojans won three singles matches, and two of their three losses on the singles courts came in three sets, including a three-hour and 30-minute thriller between Pelayo Antuna and the nation's No. 65 ranked player. In the third-place match against the Buccaneers, Carles Anton and Noah Martens picked up singles victories.
The home match will be just the second of the year for Troy, which will be playing its 13 overall match of the spring. In their home debut, the Trojans defeated West Alabama, 7-0, January 24.
Anton, the reigning Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, won all three of his matches last week to improve 10-2 on the spring to lead the Trojans, while Vito Llinares and Noah Martens are both 8-3 during the dual portion of the spring. Overall, Troy is 44-22 in dual singles matches this year.
