Losing Streak
Troy suffered its second straight loss for the first time this season, 78-72, after trailing for most of the ballgame against SIU-Edwardsville.
The Trojans battled back from being down seven at the half to tie the game twice, but the Cougars of SIUE never let Troy retake the lead. Zay Williams finished a 6-0 run, battling his way through the defense to finish the layup off Nelson Phillips's steal to bring the Trojans within one point, 65-64, with 4:59 remaining.
In the final four minutes, four players fouled out in Williams, Phillips, Darius McNeill and Christian Turner allowing the Cougars too many opportunities at the free throw line and thinning the Troy roster down to fall, 78-72.
It's Been a Couple of Decades
The Aztecs have already built up quite the resume with wins over Stanford, BYU and Ohio State. Both of San Diego's losses came to the hands of then-No. 14-ranked Arizona and No. 9 Arkansas.
Since those two losses, the Aztecs have rattled off two wins, skating by UC Irvine, 72-69, before blowing out Occidental, 95-57. This season, San Diego has been elite defensively, swiping away 9.3 steals per game to rank 39th in the nation.
Darrion Trammell leads the charge for the Aztecs in scoring with 13.1 points per game, with Matt Bradley in the second spot, averaging 11.3. Lamont Butler has silently been dominant for San Diego, leading the team in assists (27) and steals (17).
