Women’s Hoops Returns to Trojan Arena on Saturday

TROY, Ala. – Troy looks to have a short memory when the Trojans return to Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday against Texas State at 2 p.m. The Trojans dropped their league opener to Southern Miss Thursday night for just their fifth conference loss in the last 39 games.

Saturday's game against Texas State (9-3, 1-0 SBC) is Dollar Day in Trojan Arena. All general admission tickets are $1, while fans can purchase $1 popcorn and soft drinks. Additionally, the Kids Court will be open in the practice gym.

Troy (5-7, 0-1) led for the majority of the game Thursday against Southern Miss but missed its final eight shots of the game and fell 77-75. Not all is lost for the Trojans however, as the last time Troy dropped its conference opener (2020), they went on to win the SBC Tournament and nearly upset No. 4 Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament.

Nia Daniel tied a career-high with 28 points for the Trojans as she drained five 3-pointers and scored in double-figures for the seventh time this season; it was her third 20-point game in the last five contests.

Tai'Sheka Porchia added 14 points for Chanda Rigby's squad for her team-leading sixth-straight game in double-figures; she shot 60 percent from the floor for the third time in the last four games.

Texas State handed Georgia Southern just its second loss of the season on Thursday night, 82-70, behind a game-high 22 points from Da'Nasia Hood in her first action in almost three weeks. The game was the Bobcats' first outside the state of Texas this season and moved head coach Zenarae Antoine within one victory of tying the program record for most wins by a head coach.

Saturday's game will feature Troy's high-scoring offense (81.3) against Texas State's suffocating defense (55.8); both rank second in the Sun Belt, respectively. The Trojans have scored 75 or more points in five straight games and 70-plus points in 10-of-12 games.
