The Trojan offense was led by newcomer and Louisiana transfer Makayia Hallmon on Monday night against Samford. The junior guard totaled 15 points while adding five rebounds while going 6-15 from the floor.
With just five players returning from last season's squad, nine Trojans made their debut on Monday, including Alabama transfer Nia Daniel, who made her first career start. The scoresheet, however, was stuffed by Tai'Sheka Porchia, who netted nine points and nine rebounds with two steals.
Even with the strong performances from the newcomers, it was star Felmas Koranga who cleaned up the glass again for Troy. After a slow start, she finished the game with 14 rebounds and eight points. In fact, nine of her 14 rebounds were offensive boards, aiding Troy to 39 on the day.
UT Martin is coming off a 2021-22 campaign that saw them win 12 games in 30 tries. The Skyhawks went 9-9 in Ohio Valley Conference action last season and posted a 5-8 record at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
The action against the Skyhawks is the second of a season-opening seven-game road trip. The Trojans will make their way west to play two games in California before playing two games in Hawaii.
