TROY, Ala. – Three days remain until the Troy men's basketball faces Montevallo for the season opener at 6 p.m. in Trojan Arena. Among the roster are DJ Jamerson, Remy Graham and Kamryn Mitchell, who have fought hard to join the roster as 2022 walk-ons.
No. 33 | DJ Jamerson | Forward | Montgomery, Ala. | Montgomery Catholic
Jamerson traveled 55 miles to join the Trojans after graduating from Montgomery Catholic. In his one year with the school, Jamerson averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4.5 blocks en route to being named Alabama 3A All-State First Team and Capital City Conference Player of the Year.
"DJ is a long, athletic rebounder," head coach Scott Cross said. "He is still learning the game, but he plays very, very hard. I look forward to watching DJ as he will continue to improve."
The 6-5 forward hopped around to three different high schools. In a four-year varsity career, Jamerson amassed a 62-31 record while being named Most Valuable Player each season. He made his only postseason run in his senior season when he led Montgomery Catholic to be Alabama 3A State Runner-up.
A major in environmental science, Jamerson is originally from Albuquerque, N.M., where he was born on July 5, 2002. When Jamerson isn't playing basketball, he plays trumpet and drums.
"I'm redshirting this season, but fans should still be excited to watch this team and me when I'm out there," Jamerson said. "When the opportunity presents itself, I'll bring energy onto that court."
No. 35 | Remy Graham | Guard | Inlet Beach, Fla. | South Walton HS
Graham joins the Trojans with roots in both the sunshine and golden states. The 6-5 guard originally played the power forward position in high school, averaging 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists during his senior season.
"Remy is a swiss army knife, as he can play multiple positions," Cross said. "He is a good shooter, and I have a feeling that he will be a fan favorite this season."
The Santa Rose Beach, Fla. native, dominated on a personal end in his final year with accolades in All-County Second Team, Walton County Player of the Month and 3-time Walton County Player of the Week. Meanwhile, on the team side, Graham helped boost his team to a brief Florida 4A postseason appearance under head coach Safer Martin.
Born in Los Angeles, Calif., Graham has been a basketball player and golfer for as long as he can remember while maintaining a 3.5 GPA through high school. The South Walton High School graduate was raised in a household of four, including his mother, Miranda, father, Jody and younger sister, Millie.
"This year's team is a lot different, and you'll see it," Graham said. "We have a lot of new guys that can do some really amazing things, and we have big plans coming this year. You don't want to miss it."
No. 55 | Kamryn Mitchell | Guard |Dothan Ala. | Houston Academy
The local kid stays home to join Troy men's basketball after averaging 10.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in his senior season at Houston Academy. Mitchell produced that while leading his team to the Alabama 3A Final Four with a 20-11 record.
"Kamryn is a hard-playing, very intelligent basketball player," Cross said. "He is also a very good athlete that works very hard in practice."
Initially a center/small forward with Houston, the 6-4 freshman was coached under Scott Whitaker for three seasons. Mitchell accumulated a 47-36 record and two postseason appearances in that time. Outside of basketball, the 180-pound guard played football as he graduated with a 3.1 GPA.
A local to Dothan, Ala., which is only an hour away from Troy, Mitchell was born on April 26, 2004. The business major is a son to his mother, Mary Mitchell, and father, Mike Palmer while being a middle child to his younger brother, Kadyn Mitchell, and older sister, Adora Edwards.
"We've put in a lot of work and effort as a team and have a lot of talent to take the season far this year," Mitchell said. "Fans play a role in the game too, so we need all the possible energy."
