Women’s Golf Nets Seventh-Place Finish at Mercer Invitational

MACON, Ga. – After a long two days at the Brickyard Country Club, the Troy University women's golf team netted a seventh-place finish at the Mercer Invitational to close out the fall season.
ShaeLee Scarberry led the way for the Trojans and posted the team's best score for the second time this season. After shooting a 225 in her previous tournament, Scarberry responded with a 220. She recorded a 73 in round one before hitting a tournament-low 72 in the second 18 holes and closed out her tournament with a 75 on Tuesday. She finished the tournament tied for seventh overall.
After netting the second-highest finish from a Trojan this season in her last appearance, Alyssa Mercado got the start for Troy at the Mercer Invitational. She posted a 227, good for 26th overall. After a rough start to the tournament, she came back from her 78 with a 75 and a 74 score to finish second on the team.
Samantha Straight matched her lowest overall score of the season after 36 holes at the Mercer Invitational. The newcomer posted a 76 in round one before shooting just one over par in round two. On Tuesday, she finished her tournament with a 79 to hit 228 over the two days at the Brickyard Country Club.
Elisabeth Preus accomplished an even par score in round two, marking one of two times a Trojan recorded that score in the tournament. Sandwiched between her round two score were a 79 and an 84 to finish with a 235 and a 53rd place finish overall.
Katelynn Altese struggled all tournament for Troy. She posted a 243 overall score, which placed her in 78th after 36 holes of action. In round one on Monday morning, she scored an 83 before posting a pair of 80s to close out the tournament on Tuesday.
