MACON, Ga. – Troy star freshman Mario Martinez Serrano continued his impressive debut campaign by winning the Mercer Gridiron Classic with a straight sets victory on Sunday morning.

Martinez Serrano, who battled the nation's No. 8 ranked player two weeks ago to three sets, defeated Kennesaw State's Hugo Salmeron to claim the main draw title, his fourth win of the weekend in as many tries. One day after knocking off Kennesaw State's all-conference selection Raul Garcia in the semifinals, Martinez Serrano took care of one of the top freshmen from the Atlantic Sun Conference last season, winning 6-4 and 7-5.

The Zaragoza, Spain native is now 8-3 this fall after joining the Trojans along with Yeray Andres Pastor in what was the No. 5 ranked mid-major recruiting class in the country last season.

Troy will wrap up its fall season next weekend at the Bedford Cup in Tallahassee, Fla.
