Mike Rivers Named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy senior punter Mike Rivers has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in Troy's victory at South Alabama this past Thursday; the league office announced Monday afternoon.

In a game where starting field position was of the utmost importance, Rivers delivered, averaging 42.8 yards on his six punts with 4-of-6 landing inside the 20-yard line. Troy defeated South Alabama, 10-6, for its fifth straight victory in the series and the Trojans' sixth straight win in the city of Mobile – four vs. South Alabama and two Dollar General Bowl titles.

A native of Wilmington, N.C., Rivers had a long of 54 yards, and his average was lowered on a 29-yard punt that did its job pinning the Jags on the 11-yard line.Â

Troy held South Alabama to just a pair of field goals in the game thanks to drives that started on the 12, 11, 24, 7, 26 and 13-yard line following Rivers' punts.

Troy, which sits 4-1 at the top of the Sun Belt West Division, is off this week before traveling to Louisiana on Nov. 5 for another key SBC inter-divisional showdown.Â
