TROY, Ala. – For the third straight match, Troy volleyball swept their opponents on their way to their seventh consecutive victory of the season after defeating ULM (25-18, 25-21, 25-18) from Trojan Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans (14-8, 8-2) see their first seven-game winning streak since the 2019 season, which saw Troy earn their first postseason appearance in the NIVC Tournament.
"We were consistent all weekend, head coach Josh Lauer said. "There were outstanding performances all around, both on offense and defense. We did an excellent job of moving forward today and not slipping back after a good win Friday night. All that is preparation as we move forward into a big week.
A strong, consistent performance from Troy's top three hitters continued to pace the Trojan offense as Tori Hester and Julia Brooks each put down a match-high 13 kills, with Hester notching another double-double after 11 digs and Brooks leading Troy with six blocks. In addition, Amiah Butler put down 10 kills for her 14th game this season with at least 10 kills.
Amara Anderson contributed 41 assists, and 11 digs for another double-double as ULM (7-18, 0-10) only had 26 total assists. Madeline Williams once again led the Warhawks with 11 kills.
Set One: The Trojans started where they left off last night as they never trailed in the set and did not allow ULM to even tie the set up at any point. Six different Trojans recorded a kill contribution, as Hester and Amia Butler each had four to lead the way. Troy saw a five-point lead at the media timeout that they held throughout after extending it to seven after an ace by Isabella Mitchell setting up set point. Hester gave troy their fourth straight set over the Warhawks with a kill.
Set Two: The second set was much more of a back-and-forth affair, seeing 10 tie scores and four lead changes. The visitors held an 11-9 lead which was the first time this weekend that ULM had a lead after the 10th point for either team. With it tied 15-15, the Warhawks scored three straight for their largest lead, but Troy battled back and eventually scored four straight to take a 22-20 lead. Troy recorded three aces in the set, and two came in the last three points, including Brooks ending the set with one.
Set Three: The third set was once again all Troy leading from the beginning and never trailing. The Trojans totaled a match-high 18 kills on .344 hitting. However, ULM battled back from a five-point deficit to get within one at 16-15. With the score 20-18, Troy was ready to go home as they closed out the match on a five-point rally which included two Butler Kills
Up Next: The Trojans will close out the home conference slate next weekend as they welcome interstate rivals South Alabama for an essential series as both teams sit atop the Sun Belt West standings at 8-2.
