Trojans Cruise to Sweep of Arkansas State; Brooks Sets Career Solo Block Record

JONESBORO, Ark. – After accumulating 1,000 kills in her career last week, Julia Brooks added her name to the record books once again as she became the Trojan all-time leader in solo blocks finishing with two in the Trojans sweep of Arkansas State (25-19, 25-19, 25-21) Saturday afternoon.
Brooks now has 85 solo blocks throughout her Trojan career and has her eyes set on the Trojan total blocks career record next, as she is currently in fourth with 297 blocks. She is chasing 315 blocks set by Darby Griff (2012-15).
Troy (12-8, 6-2) sees their fifth straight win with Tori Hester once again, leading the Trojan offense with a match-high 18 kills. Troy hit a solid .340 for the match, with Amiah Butler following up her career night last night with 15 kills with a .609 hitting percentage, and Julia Brooks notched double-digit kills for the second straight game. In addition, Amara Anderson notched 37 assists and a team-high 12 digs for her seventh double of the season.
The Trojans handed Arkansas State (5-15, 0-8) their 14th straight loss as Macey Putt led the Red Wolves with 13 kills.
Arkansas State's last lead of the match came at 11-10 of the first set, as Troy never trailed after that point.
Set One: Down 11-9 in the first set, the Trojans rattled off seven straight points to claim the lead. They hit a match-high .379 in the set, with Hester leading the way with six kills. The Red Wolves never got within more than three the rest of the way for Troy to claim the first set 25-19.
Set Two: Troy finished the second set with eight more kills than Arkansas State in the set, never seeing themselves trail. They saw two service aces from Hester and Caroline Darracott and had a lead of seven points at one point. Arkansas State cut that lead to three late in the set but kills from Butler and Brooks made sure Troy held a two-set advantage after winning the second set again 25-19
