TROY, Ala. – Following a weekend in which she totaled 30 kills, and became the 12th player in Troy volleyball program history to reach 1,000 career kills, Julia Brooks has been named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the week, the league announced Tuesday.
"Julia put a lot of pressure on herself at the beginning of the season and has really been working hard because she cares so deeply about the team," head coach Josh Lauer said. "It's a great accomplishment, and she deserves it. She puts her heart and soul into her play and this team daily. To see her reach such a milestone and be recognized is special, but what's really great is there is a lot more volleyball left to be played for her."
Brooks led a Trojan offense to back-to-back wins over Marshall with a season-high 18 kills in game one against the Herd; the most of any player in four sets. She followed that performance with 12 in game two, in which she hit a match-high .455. Brooks played in all seven sets over the weekend, as she is the only Trojan to appear in all 71 sets this season.
Her 30 kills were the third most by a Sun Belt player, and she finished with the second most points over the weekend and added three blocks.
The St. Louis, Mo., native has 189 kills on the season and leads the Trojans with 56 total blocks. This is Brooks's second offensive player of the week honor of her career and fourth overall conference regular-season accolade after winning freshman of the week twice back in 2019.
