JONESBORO, Ark. – The Troy University women's golf team slid two spots on Tuesday during the final day of the Lady Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark., to finish 10th overall. Senior ShaeLee Scarberry finished the tournament tied for seventh.
Freshman Laura Fangmeyer had the best day for Troy on the final day of the tournament at Sage Meadows Golf Club. The rookie followed her score of 74 in round two yesterday with an identical score on Tuesday. Fangmeyer recorded three birdies in her final round.
Katelynn Altese had a stellar first two days of the tournament but shot her highest score on Tuesday. Four of the five Trojans in the lineup recorded their highest score of the tournament in round three. Altese landed two birdies on the front nine, but six bogeys on the back half of the course landed her in 37th place overall.
Jillian Friyia finished the tournament with a score of 229 to land her tied for 64th in the overall leaderboards. She had a solid front nine score, as seven pars landed her in a good position to move up the ladder. However, three birdies were undone by negative scores on the scorecard to land her plus five for the day.
After a historic second round that saw her break the program record for the lowest score in a single round, Scarberry faltered with a score of 78 in the following round. Scarberry landed plus three in both the front and back nine of the tournament but still finished in the top 10 with a tied-for-seventh finish.
Bruna Roqueta rounded out the Trojan leaderboard after three rounds of golf in Arkansas. She recorded six pars during play in the front nine but slipped to a plus-four on the back nine to land seven over after 18 holes. Roqueta finished the tournament tied for 72nd.
The Trojans will return to action next week when they travel to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, to participate in the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic. The two-day tournament is slated to begin Monday October 17.
