TROY, Ala. – After falling for the first time at the Troy Soccer Complex last Sunday, Troy women's soccer travels to the Peach State to battle Georgia State at the GSU Soccer Complex on Sunday at noon.
The Trojans (2-5-2, 0-2-1 SBC) search for their first win in program history at the GSU Soccer Complex – 0-9-1 in Troy history. Meanwhile, the Panthers (5-1-5, 1-0-2 SBC) look to continue their unbeaten streak in Sun Belt play through two weeks.
Coming Up Short
The first half of Sunday's match against Arkansas State saw Troy dominate the offensive end early as Jayla Gage led Troy with 3-of-4 shots in the first 20 minutes.
The score remained silent through the first half and deep into the second before ASU's Darby Stotts got the dish from Emma Riley to find the back of the net, 56:46 into the game, 1-0. Less than six minutes later, the Red Wolves tacked a second one on the board, 2-0, off a rocket from Sarah Strong from the penalty arch.
Nia Wilson responded at the 78-minute mark to put Troy back into the game, 2-1, after Gabrielle Chartier let out a picturesque corner kick that met her for the header. Troy kept the tempo high with two more shots and corner-kick opportunities in the final 12 minutes. None were successful as Troy fell for the first time at home, 2-1.
