Men’s Tennis Opens Home Slate Monday

TROY, Ala. – After opening the spring with five straight road matches, the Troy men's tennis team opens the home portion of its schedule Monday against West Alabama. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex; admission is free.
Troy (3-2) is coming off a doubleheader sweep at AUM last week, where the Warhawks entered the matches ranked No. 16 nationally among the NCAA Division II ranks. The Trojans opened the spring with a 7-0 win over Binghamton, followed by competitive losses at Florida Gulf Coast (4-3) and Miami (6-1); both of which were ranked in the top 65 to end 2021.
Carles Anton and Vito Llinares are both off to strong starts in the dual part of the schedule with wins in four of their five singles matches, while Noah Martens is 3-1 playing on court three for the Trojans.
Anton has also had success on the doubles court as he and Pelayo Antuna are 4-0 on the spring, while Nicolas Simpkin and Christopher Tasker are 3-2.
Monday's contest marks the first matchup between the in-state foes since a 5-2 Troy win in the 2019 spring opener, during head coach Rolando Vargas' first season with the Trojans.
