TROY, Ala. - Troy travels to Tuscaloosa on Sunday to battle the Crimson Tide and spark the beginning of its spring season. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
The Trojans last played October 29 / 30 at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic. They begin their newest chapter in the same setting their previous one concluded.
Where'd We Leave off
Andrea Widing led the way for the Trojans at the Fall Classic, defeating Memphis' Dolavee Tumthong in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 10-2). This was the Trojans' only victory in the single's competition.
Before this, Widing partnered with Anastasiia Khokhlova to defeat Sayda Hernandez / Ziaowei Hu (Indiana), 6-4, advancing to the Round of 16.
Despite being unsuccessful in their singles competition, Michelle Ncube and Kristina Kukaras pulled off a massive victory over Tulane's Lily Walther / Cora Barber, 6-2, to give the Trojans their second victory in the double's competition.
We've Met Before
The Trojans and Crimson Tide meet for the second time in as many years after a 19-year void. Last they met, Alabama shut out the Trojans, 7-0, to swiftly secure the victory on Feb. 10, 2021.
Khokhlova / Widing put on a fight in their double's match, pushing the Tide (Moka Ito / Sydney Riley) to seven sets - winning three.
