Women's Golf Fifth Following Opening Round of USA Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – Troy women's golf team opened its fall campaign Friday with 18 holes at the USA Intercollegiate at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course. The Trojans are in fifth place among the 17-team field, while ShaeLee Scarberry is in the top 10 individually.
Scarberry had a steady round with three birdies and two bogeys to go under par to open the season with a 1-under 73. She is tied for 10th place overall and a shot ahead of teammate Elisabeth Preus, who is tied for 15th place following an even-par round with three birdies.
Elizabeth Caldarelli and Anna Claire Little are both tied for 31st place at 2-over par. Caldarelli carded three birdies on the day while Little had one birdie. Bruna Roqueta, who was playing her first round for the Trojans, carded a team-best four birdies on the day but struggled with some bogeys en route to a 3-over. Playing as an individual, Alyssa Mercado shot 4-over and is tied for 52nd place.
South Florida shot 8-under as a team and holds a two-shot lead over Middle Tennessee, while Sam Houston State is five shots back in third.
Troy will once again play with UTEP and Sam Houston State for Sunday's second round, with the first threesome hitting the No. 1 tee box at 8 a.m.
