Women’s Golf Opens Season Saturday in Mobile

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's golf team opens its 2021 fall campaign this weekend at the USA Intercollegiate at the 6,002-yard Magnolia Grove Golf Course. Teams will play 18 holes Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

"Our team chemistry is great," head coach Randy Keck said. "They have worked extremely hard to prepare to play this first tournament, and I'm excited to see their hard work pay off. The weather has forced us to change our practice routine, but it might have been a blessing in disguise with how good our short game is right now. I'm cautiously optimistic about this group."

Troy's lineup will feature a little new and a little old to open the season with four returners anchoring Keck's five scoring players, while a pair of newcomers will make their Troy debuts.

ShaeLee Scarberry, Elisabeth Preus, Anna Claire Little and Elizabeth Caldarelli are all back for the Trojans, while Bruna Roqueta will debut in the lineup and Alyssa Mercado will play as an individual in her first event as a Trojan.

Scarberry is Troy's top-returning scorer after carding four rounds under par last year and finishing the season with seven top-25 finishes in 10 events thanks to a 3.43 score vs. par. Preus ended the season with a 4.82 score vs. par and four top 25 finishes, while Little had a pair of top 10 finishes, one round under par and a 5.16 score vs. par.

Caldarelli, who is coming off a tremendous summer, played in nine events for Troy last season after transferring from Texas A&M, while Roqueta joined the Trojans this fall after playing two seasons at Lamar. Mercado began her career at North Florida before making the transition to Troy this fall.

"It's going to take a combined effort from the top to the bottom of the lineup," Keck said. "We're very balanced from one through six and everybody has to fill their role for us to be successful. We're not built for one person to go crazy low each round; where we're going to be effective is when everyone is playing their part and we're playing a solid balanced round."

Troy will be in the final threesome off No. 10 for Saturday's opening round. The Trojans will be paired with UTEP and Sam Houston State with the first group set to tee off at 9:39 a.m.
