PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Thanks to a pair of top-10 performances, the Troy women's golf team finished in fifth place at the Sea Best Jacksonville Classic, which wrapped up play Tuesday at the Marsh Landing Country Club.
Elisabeth Preus turned in the best round of the day for any of the golfers in the field with a 2-under 70 as she vaulted into a tie for seventh place. Preus made 12 straight pars to open her day before dropping a birdie on the par-4 fourth and following with another on the par-5 sixth. She finished the week 3-over par.
ShaeLee Scarberry led the Trojans for the third straight tournament to open the season as she tied for fourth place, a shot ahead of Preus, at 2-over. Scarberry carded three birdies on the day and shot a 1-over 73 for the second straight round.
Tulane held off Jacksonville by four shots for the team titles, while Lipscomb and USC Upstate rounded out the field ahead of Troy.
Playing as an individual, Alyssa Mercado wrapped up a strong week with a 1-over 73 as she tied for 12th place overall at 5-over. Anna Claire Little picked up a top-25 finish at 10-over par following a 3-over 75 in the final round, while Bruna Roqueta shot 4-over on Tuesday to tie for 27th place and Elizabeth Caldarelli tied for 31st place following a 78 on Tuesday.
Brinson Hall wrapped up her first collegiate tournament in a tie for 42nd place and Brooklyn Bostick tied for 47th place in her first action of the season; both played the event as individuals.
Troy takes a week off before heading to Jonesboro, Ark., for the Lady Red Wolves Classic on Oct. 11-12.
