Troy Finishes Non-Conference Play With Samford Invitational

TROY, Ala. – Troy Volleyball will hit the road for one last time before conference play as they gear up for the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. from the Pete Hanna Center and face off against LSU and Samford Saturday, September 18th through the 19th.
Troy (5-4) is coming off a sweep of Alabama St. Tuesday night, seeing the Trojans head into the weekend on a two-game winning streak.
"This weekend will be one of the biggest challenges of our non-conference schedule," head coach Josh Lauer said. "LSU and Samford are both well-coached teams and very physical athletically. We are excited to compete this weekend, and there is no doubt this will be great preparation as we transition to Sun Belt Conference play next week."

Know the Foe:
LSU: This will be the first matchup between the two schools and the third SEC school the Trojans have played this season. The Tigers come into the match with a 3-4 record, having defeated Northern Arizona, Oregon State, and Sam Houston so far this year. The Tigers are averaging 13.231 kills, 12.11 assists, and 13.84 digs per set. The Tigers rank in the bottom three for opponent hitting percentage, kills allowed, and assists allowed in the SEC.
Samford: With the first meeting coming in 1993, the Trojans haven't seen the Bulldogs since 2011. Troy leads the all-time series 21-12. This season Samford has is 1-8, with their lone win coming against UT Martin. Samford gives up the highest opponent hitting percentage in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs are avenging 12.2 kills, 10.9 assists, and 12 digs per set.
