Men’s Golf Off to Hot Start at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

CHOUDRANT, La. – The Forrest Schultz era of Troy men's golf got off to a rousing start Sunday as the Trojans shot 2-under in the opening round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech at the Squire Creek Golf Club.

Troy's 286 on Sunday was better than any round the Trojans shot last year and puts them in fifth place overall and just a shot behind a trio of teams tied for second – LSU, Southern Miss and Little Rock. Troy is just two shots off the team lead, while Will McFadden and Brantley Scott are tied for fourth individually at 3-under par, which is just two shots off the pace.

The Trojans started on the back nine, and the duo of McFadden and Scott blistered the first five holes as the paid combined to shoot 5-under par with six birdies. McFadden, a junior, finished the round with three birdies and 15 pars, while Scott, a freshman making his collegiate debut, carded six birdies on the day -- the third most in the field.

Nicklas Borrmann had a solid round for the Trojans as well, with three birdies en route to even par; he is tied for 29^thplace overall. Kyle Cornelius carded a pair of birdies and is tied for 73^rd place at 4-over, while Jake Springer shot 9-over in his Troy debut and is tied for 119^th overall.

Troy will be paired with UTSA, Lamar and Louisiana Tech for Monday's second round, with the first foursome hitting the course at 10:50 a.m. from the first tee box.
